Over In The Meadow: Sing Your Numbers iPhone / iPad App Review

Over In The Meadow: Sing Your Numbers is a fun educational app designed to help introduce young toddlers to numbers and teach them to count from one to five through it's games and music. This app is developed by Tiger Stripes, the same people who brought us Working on the Railroad which was a big hit with Ben and still is. While Ben (2 years) mastered counting to five and beyond some time ago he still enjoys playing this app and I am not surprised to see why as the games are great fun and feature lots of colourful animals, sea creatures and songs young kids are sure to enjoy.

When you load the app you can select between two modes Play Games and Play Singing. If you select Play Games you then have the option to select between three different games. The first game represented by a boat icon requires you to help a group of mice build a ship by dragging and dropping the correct parts of the boat so that they can sail across the sea and reach the land at the other side. The next game represented by 123 is set under the sea and you have to select the correct number and type of underwater creatures which you are asked for. In the third game which is Ben's favourite (and mine), you have to help a group of animals who are in the desert by catapulting them over a wall back into the meadow by launching the correct number each time. The other mode, Play Singing is based on the traditional American folk song "Over in the Meadow" which helps children learn to count. There are five verses of the song included in this app which preschoolers are sure to love singing along to while they count the froggies, birds and bees starting from “Little Froggie One” to “Little Bees Five” Buzzz!" and explore all the scenes where they can discover lots of hidden treasures.

As already mentioned the games in this app are a big hit with Ben and are engaging to ensure he is kept entertained. The fact that the games are based on counting from one to five in each section makes them a good length for young toddlers as it keeps their attention for the duration while reinforcing their counting skills. As the app is interactive, requiring the child to do lots of selecting and dragging and dropping of animals and other items it is good for developing their fine motor skills and hand eye coordination.

Over In The Meadow: Sing Your Numbers is available to download from the App Store for £1.49 and is compatible with both iPhone and iPad. There is also a Lite version available which can be downloaded for free. Toddlers are sure to enjoy this app so it gets a thumbs up from me, the games are definitely a big winner with Ben as I am sure they will be with all preschoolers.

*Disclaimer: This is a sponsored post. I received a promocode to download this app but this has in no way biased my opinion - it is a fun engaging app for teaching young kids to count from one to five.
