Dr Seuss Beginner Book Collection #1 iPad / iPhone App Review

Ben loves Dr. Seuss stories in any form whether it is the actual printed books, in film or e-books. We already have some of the Dr. Seuss iPad / iPhone apps which are a big hit with Ben so I was delighted to hear that Oceanhouse Media has released a new app Dr. Seuss Beginner Book Collection #1 which is a collection of the most popular Dr. Seuss books The Cat in the Hat, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, The Foot Book, Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You? and Fox in Socks. As Ben is such a big Dr. Seuss fan I find this app is very useful as it means I always have a selection of his favourite books on hand to read to him or let him play with and he loves having the option to select between the books.

Click on character to select book

When you load the app you select the book you wish to read by clicking on the character in the menu which represents it. Like all the other Dr. Seuss apps from Oceanhouse Media, these follow the same format, when you select a book you are given three options, Read To Me, Read It Myself and Auto Play. Each of these modes come in useful in different situations whether it is the Read It Myself option where you or your child want to read the book in a traditional format or Read To Me and Auto Play which is great to keep your child entertained in the car etc. Each page is interactive with the words appearing and spoken when an object is touched on screen helping to develop word association. In Read To Me mode words are underlined as the story is read which helps children learn to read. It is also worth mentioning that you have the option to turn off sounds in the settings so you can let your child use the app in quiet places without worrying about them turning the volume up and disturbing all around them. All the books are illustrated with the classic Dr. Seuss drawings which makes them instantly recognisable and familiar.

Ben's favourite story in the collection is Fox in Socks. He loves it's fun rhyming which at times feels like a tongue twister and can be quite tricky to read - no wonder it comes with a warning at the start!

Fox in Socks: Comes with a warning

Fox in Socks: Tongue Twister :)

Dr. Seuss Beginner Book Collection #1 is available to download from the AppStore for £7.99 and as it is a universal app it works on all Apple devices. It is a big favourite with us so I can highly recommend it!

*Disclaimer: This is a sponsored post. I received a promocode to download this app but this has in no way biased my opinion.

This sounds great however my little boy is obsessed with my I-pad and if I got him something like this he would want to touch it all the time and I'm still in my ipad adoration phase! Deffo one for the future though! x

I love the Oceanhouse Dr Seuss books that we've got, and this sounds like a lovely collection, but I do baulk at the price a bit. I guess when you work it out on a "per book" basis it's not too bad, but it tips over my "I'll just buy it" threshold, and will be something I'll watch out for a price drop or discount before buying I think

Lol! I hear you! Ben loves my iPad and we often have to do battle for use of it. This is a great app to have though if you do ever decide to let little fingers near your iPad ;)

I totally see your point, it may sound a little expensive but I think given the amount you get for it all in one app it is worth it. If you look at the same collection of printed books on amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/0375851569 which cost £23.06 it actually seems quite cheap especially as once downloaded you have it on all your apple devices which for me is great as I always have a favourite book on hand for Ben without having to carry them around.
